QWO is collagenase clostridium histolyticum-aaes. This is a combination of bacterial collagenases used for the treatment of moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of adult women.
QWO is made from enzymes called collagenases. These enzymes are thought to target the structural causes under the skin, where cellulite starts, to release the fibrous bands, redistribute fat cells, and stimulate the growth of new collagen.
The FDA approved QWO to treat cellulite in the buttocks of women. In clinical trials, it appears to reduce the severity of “dimpling” in this area. In the study, participants received three injections, each 21 days apart.
QWO On Other Body Areas
Other areas of the body that may benefit from Qwo include the thighs and upper arms, however, these treatments would be off-label uses and done at the discretion of the prescribing practitioner.
The benefits of QWO

During your consultation, we will discuss your goals and tailor a treatment plan that aligns with your needs. Once we have completed your consultation, marks will be placed on treatment areas where injections are to be done. Then, you will be asked to lay on a comfortable bed while the technician inject small shots on each dimple. Once completed the area is cleaned and your all done. Treatment time is approximately 1 hour.
Usually, depending on each individual, 3 sessions are done 21 days apart for best results. Treatment can be repeated for comprehensive improvement after 21 days after your last session.
It's not fully understood how QWO works in moderate to severe cellulite but the enzymes in QWO which are called collagenases, are believed to target a structural cause under the skin.
It's thought that QWO works in 3 ways
- Releasing fibrous bands
- Redistributing fat cells
- Stimulating the growth of new collagen.
The primary contributing factor to cellulite is the fibrous connective tissue called the fibrous septae. When the skin thins with aging, and the fat cells enlarge, it pushes against the skin and the fibrous septae (1) bands thicken and push against the skin to create dimples. This causes the visible cellulite on the buttocks appears.
QWO is made from enzymes called collagenases. These enzymes target the structural causes under the skin, where cellulite starts, to release the fibrous bands, redistribute fat cells, and stimulate the growth of new collagen. Qwo will be injected three times into the fibrous septae to slowly in order to release the fibrous strands.
Before receiving Qwo, patients should alert us of any medical conditions. If you have had an allergic reaction to a QWO injection in the past or have a bleeding problem. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant anytine soon. It is not known if QWO will harm your unborn baby so its best to after your done breastfeeding. Tell us all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Especially tell us if you take a medicine that prevents the clotting of your blood (antiplatelet or anticoagulant medicine). The exception is patients who are taking less than 150mg of aspirin daily.
